Dowagiac seniors help sweep Benton Harbor

Dowagiac celebrated senior night with a pair of wins over visiting Benton Harbor at Rotary Park Tuesday.

The Chieftains slipped past the Tigers 5-4 and 4-3.

Dowagiac’s Ellijah Williams picked up the win in relief of starter Mack Charles in the opening game. Williams pitched three and two-third innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

Charles did not allow and earned run on two hits with five strikeouts.

Dowagiac was outhit by Benton Harbor 5-4.

Kade Schriber doubled, while Brenden Dudley, Austin Jones and Adrien Bucha-Moore all singled.

In the nightcap, Dudley picked up the win in relief of Bucha-Moore. Dudley worked three innings without allowing a run or a hit. He struck out five Tigers.

Bucha-Moore worked for innings, allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

The Chieftains had seven hits in the contest, including a double by Jones.

Duan Simpson, Dudley, Collin Hassle, Charles, Brandon Felthouse and Bucha-Moore all singled.

Dowagiac will travel to Paw Paw in a make-up game Friday before heading to Plainwell for a make-up game on Tuesday.
