Dowagiac woman injured after vehicle crashes
into tree

DOWAGIAC — A Dowagiac woman was hospitalized after her vehicle crashed into a tree outside the city Sunday evening, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reported one-vehicle accident on Rudy Road, south of Dewey Lake Street in Wayne Township around 9 p.m. Authorities learned that 53-year-old Suzette Ahonen had lost control of her vehicle while driving on Rudy Road and crashed into a nearby tree.

Crews with Pride Care Ambulance transported Ahonen to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment, before being transferred to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Seatbelts were used in the crash, and authorities believe alcohol played a factor. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Crews with Pride Care and the Wayne Township Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.

Niles man crashes into guardrail while trying to avoid deer

NILES — A Niles man was injured after crashing into a guardrail while swerving to avoid a deer early Sunday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on M-51 near Maple Lane Street in Howard Township around 12:28 a.m. Police learned that 24-year-old Ronald Adam Jones III lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail.

Jones sought his own medical attention for his injuries.

Seatbelts were used and alcohol is not believed to a factor, police said.

Troopers with the Michigan State Police Department assisted deputies at the scene.
