Roundup: Vikings win third straight against St. Joseph

For the third straight game, the Niles baseball team defeated St. Joseph.

After sweeping the Bears in a SMAC West Division game Tuesday, the Vikings defeated South Bend St. Joseph in a non-league game Wednesday.

Niles (11-12) used a four-run sixth inning to earn the 5-3 victory against the Indians, who drop to 19-3 on the year.

Tayton Stevens went the distance for Niles on the mound, allowing three runs on 11 hits.

The Vikings finished with nine hits, led by Keegan Neumann and Cody Glick, both of whom were 2-for-3. Neumann doubled and singled.

 

Brandywine baseball

Visiting Brandywine dropped a pair of BCS Athletic Conference baseball games to Comstock Tuesday.

The Bobcats (9-12-1) lost 10-3 in the opening game and 3-2 in the nightcap.

Brandywine had 10 hits in the first game, led by Brady Duval, who was 2-for-4 with a triple. Toby Fox was 2-for-4 with a double, while Caleb Cole was 2-for-3.

Fox took the loss for the Bobcats as he allowed one earned run on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Ty Mickiewicz worked the sixth inning.

In the nightcap, Brandywine finished with seven hits.

Fox was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

Joey Covyeou suffered the loss as he allowed one earned run on four hits.

 

Buchanan baseball

The Bucks split a BCS Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader with Parchment Tuesday.

After winning the first game 10-5, Buchanan was edged by the Panthers 6-5 in the nightcap.

Chad Adkerson was 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Bucks in the first game.

Christian Hall was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Brad VanOvearberghe was 3-for-4.

Kyle Leazenby went the distance to earn the victory. He did not allow and earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts with no walks.

In the nightcap, Hall was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Dalton Riddle took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts.

 

Brandywine softball

The Bobcats swept a pair of BCS softball games from host Comstock to improve to 12-13 on the season.

Brandywine won the opening game 1-0 and then completed the sweep with a 5-3 win in the nightcap.

Delani Nelson tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks in the first game.

Brandywine also had three hits, led by Morgan Crocker’s seventh home run of the season.

In the nightcap, Nelson was also the winning pitcher. She gave up three runs on eight hits with no walks.

Brandywine had 11 hits, led by Audrey Longley’s double.
