Those who give their closets a spring cleaning this season are reminded that they have a new place for unwanted clothing that might be taking up space.

The Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar St., Niles, is seeking donations of women’s clothing to contribute towards a free ministry closet for those in need.

The closet, dubbed “Evy’s Closet,” was founded by church associate Brenda Engel. Engel named the closet after her mother Engel Bolton, who recently passed away earlier this year in January.

“She was an extraordinary costumer for area schools, performance groups and individuals,” Engel said.  “She was even known to give clothing away to those in need.”

Engel has asked for community members to contribute adult-size women’s clothing and accessories.

“When you are considering making donations to local charities while cleaning out your closets, please consider making a donation to Evy’s Closet,” Engel said.

Those interested in donating can drop off items between 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday or between 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Donations can also be picked up by calling the church at (269) 683-7250 or by calling Engel at (269) 845- 6691. Donation receipts are available for contributions.

A grand opening ceremony date for the closet will be announced at a later time.
