Two local teens will receive $2,000 in scholarships from K&M Machine-Fabricating, Inc.
K&M has announced that recent high school graduates Zoe Laubach and Jackson McLoughlin are the winners for its fall 2017 Earl G. Marhanka Scholarship.
The scholarship program was established in 2001 in honor of founder Earl Marhanka and K&M’s 50th anniversary. To date, more than $204,000 has been awarded to sons and daughters of K & M employees who meet the program requirements.
Laubach, daughter of member of K&M’s engineering team William Green, is a graduate of Edwardsburg High School. At EHS, Laubach was a member of the varsity tennis team and was regional champion and state qualifier two years in a row. Her plans for the future include studying biomedical engineering at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. She hopes to use her degree to develop artificial organs and devices that can help people live normal lives.
Jackson McLoughlin, son of K&M’s General Manager Derek McLoughlin, is a graduate of Lake Michigan Catholic School. At LMCS, McLoughlin was a member of the varsity basketball and golf teams, as well as the National Honor Society and Key Club. His plans for the future include studying computer engineering at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He hopes to spend his early career learning about engineering overseas or in the southern United States to experience the differences in their style.
In addition to the two new recipients, four previous scholarship winners are eligible to renew their $2,000 scholarships. Previous recipients include: Emily Baer of Saint Mary’s College, Madison McLoughlin of Loyola University, Amber Streeter of Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Rochelle Zachrich of Glen Oaks Community College.
