Chieftains fall to Lake Michigan Catholic

Visiting Lake Michigan Catholic defeated Dowagiac 5-3 in a non-conference match at the Dowagiac Middle School courts Monday.

The Chieftains’ lone on-court victory came at No. 1 doubles from Luda Dickson-French and Lexi Chorba.

Dowagiac also picked up a pair of default victories against the Lakers.

On Saturday, the Chieftains competed in the Wolverine Conference Tournament at Sturgis High School.

Allegan edged Sturgis 73-69 to win its 29th conference championship in the 44 years the Wolverine Conference has been in existence.

It was also the 13th consecutive league championship for the Tigers, who won five flight championships.

Edwardsburg, which had an individual champion at No. 2 singles, finished third with 66 points.

Rounding out the order of finish were Vicksburg (50), Otsego (45), Paw Paw (44), Dowagiac (28), Three Rivers (28), Plainwell (23) and South Haven (12).

The Chieftains will now compete in the Division 3 MHSAA tennis regional at Allegan.

Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
