Dowagiac sends seniors out in style

The Dowagiac soccer team sent out its seniors in style.

The Chieftains defeated visiting Bridgman 4-1 in non-conference action Friday.

Kellyn Daly scored three of the four Chieftain goals, while Alexandra Reynaga scored the other goal.

Senior goalkeeper Grace Younger had 17 saves.

“I talked to the girls before the game and told them to play with emotion and stick together,” first-year Dowagiac coach Chad Davis said. “I thought they did a great job of that and played very smart and extremely hard. We found some holes in Bridgman’s defense, which allowed us to exploit them with our speed.

“I told the ladies at halftime, ‘let’s finish this game for our seniors,’ and they did just that.”

Dowagiac traveled to Sturgis for a Wolverine Conference match Monday night. The Chieftains will host Otsego in a league match at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
