Wesley United Methodist Church’s third annual Elder Care Expo will seek to be a one-stop shop for those looking to better prepare for the future.

More than a dozen vendors will offer expert advice on a variety of services from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at the church, located at 302 Cedar St., Niles. At least 50 people are expected to attend.

Those who attend can find out information from health care services and a variety of senior services, like Meals on Wheels and 4 Medic On Call Mobile Help, as well as experts in audiology and finance.

Event organizer Brenda Engel said the free event seeks to provide a way to learn about the abundance of local services that can make elder care easier.

“I just think from a financial perspective it is a benefit to understand how much [elder care services] will cost and to know what is out there,” Engel said. “Maybe people have not thought about a service that they need.”

Engel encouraged anyone from the “sandwich generation” or with an aging loved one to attend. The “sandwich generation” describes those who are caring for children and older parents.

“It is never too early to start thinking about these things,” Engel said.

With the motto, “Breathe in, breathe out,” Wesley United Methodist Church hopes to help people find a little peace of mind, whether in ministry or in their daily lives. This motto has influenced the church to offer the free service to the public, Engel said.

The church is still seeking vendors to join the event. Participating vendors pay $25, which goes toward covering snacks and other event costs.
