Edwardsburg Girl Scout Troop 00111 had a record-setting year selling cookies.

The troop, which is comprised of 18 girls, including 15 from Edwardsburg, two from Brandywine and one from St. Mary’s in Niles, sold an whopping 8,527 boxes of cookies.

That equates to roughly 473 boxes per member.

“Girl Scout cookie sales were up as a whole this year,” said troop leader Kate Huff. “That is probably double what we have done in the past, or at least close to it.”

Huff said hard work paid off for the troop.

“We had cookie booths Fridays through Sundays outside in the snow and rain from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The girls did two-hour shifts. It was a very long season.”

The top three sellers earn an extra patch and at the troop’s end of the year gathering, there will be gifts for the top sellers.

Troop 00111 is doing more than selling cookies this year.

Recently, the troop took a trip to Medieval Times in Illinois as a way of celebrating its success.

The troop also hosted a dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in South Bend and donated 18 pediatric blankets to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Later this spring, Troop 00111 will be painting fire hydrants in Niles.
