The Dowagiac tennis team is on a roll heading into the final few matches of the season.

The Chieftains picked up their second straight non-conference victory Tuesday with a 6-2 in over visiting Buchanan at the Dowagiac Middle School courts.

Dowagiac swept the doubles flights, winning all in straight sets, to earn the win.

“The juniors and seniors have finally come into their own tennis game,” said Dowagiac coach Andi Smallbone. “They are playing more competitively than they have in their high school tennis careers. As a coach it is great to see when it finally ‘clicks’ and they have confidence along with their athletic abilities.”

Dowagiac’s singles victories came at No. 2 with Mary Bonomo and at No. 4 with Ally Hale. Both won in straight sets over Cheyanne Cowan and Abby Cowles respectively.

The Chieftains headed to Vicksburg Wednesday for a Wolverine Conference match before competing in the league tournament at Sturgis High School Saturday.
