Athlete Showcase: Edwardsburg’s Terek Curtis

Terek Curtis is a senior on the Edwardsburg golf team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

TC: Being honorable mention all-conference my sophomore year.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

TC: Getting disqualified in a match and letting my team down.

What has been a hardship in your life?

TC: Tearing my labrum my junior year and not being able to play golf.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

TC: My dad is a hero in my life, because he is the one who got me started with golf when I was 3 years old. I have golfed with him ever since.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

TC: When I get ready to tee off on the first hole.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

TC: I hit a ball too far and hit a person’s cart in the fairway in front of us.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

TC: I go to the course every day and play what courses we play that week on the weekends.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

TC: Field events at track.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

TC: It keeps me active and out of trouble.

How would you give away $50,000?

TC: I would give it to a hunting or fishing camps for kids.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

TC: A rocket football team in Edwardsburg.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

TC: Hunt and fish for a living.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

TC: Hit the ball strait consistently.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

TC: We should be able to get one mulligan per round.   

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

TC: When I drove a ball super far and a coach came up and said that was a great shot.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

TC: I tried to clear the water to put myself one up on my opponent and I put it on the green.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

TC: A kid I was playing with in an 18-hole tournament chipped two balls in from off the green.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

TC: Fishing because I can just go out in nature and get away from life.
