Silver Creek Township (April 5)

Approval of bills and claims: The township board approved the payment of $129,630.69 worth of bills and claims. Yes: Unanimous.

Renewal of mowing contract: The township board approved its mowing and trimming contract with MTL in the amount of $50 per visit. The board allowed Supervisor Bill Saunders to sign the deal. Yes: Unanimous.

Participation in DNR goose removal program: The township board requested the assistance of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources through its Canada Goose Roundup/Removal Program in order to control the population of the birds inhabiting the grounds of Dewey Lake, per a request from the Dewey Lake Property Owners Association. The program will last from 2017 through 2021 and will come at no cost to the township. Yes: Unanimous.

Dust control contract: The township board approved a dust control contract with the Cass County Road Commission for Marke Road, to use one application of 42 percent liquid calcium chloride. The board allowed Supervisor Bill Saunders to sign the deal. Yes: Unanimous.

Dowagiac City (April 10)

Appointment of new city treasurer: The city council appointed Latoi Wilson as city treasurer due to the impending retirement of City Treasurer Robin Coffey. Wilson was recommended to the position by a sub-committee. Yes: Unanimous.

Annual Spring Clean-up Week: The city council set the dates for the city’s annual Spring Clean-Up Week from April 24 to 28, and selected Republic Services, of Kalamazoo, to handle the work for $12,984. Councilwoman Lori Hunt offered and moved to approve the following resolution; seconded by Councilman Leon Laylin. Yes: Unanimous.

Mowing bid: The city council approved a bid for mowing of properties that are not maintained by their owners to Real Pro Solutions LLC, of Marcellus, for a minimum per lot rate of $28.50.  Yes: Unanimous.

Update to the anti-drug and alcohol abuse policies for Dial-A-Ride Transit: The city council approved changes to the anti-drug and alcohol abuse policies for the city’s Dial-A-Ride Transit program, to bring them in line with current U.S. Department of Transportation standards. Yes: Unanimous.

Bills and payroll: The city council approved payment of $276,862.59 in outstanding bills and $241,714.36 in payroll, for a total of $518,576.95. Yes: Unanimous.
