Roundup: Brandywine, Buchanan sweep BCS doubleheaders

BERRIEN SPRINGS — Visiting Brandywine swept a BCS Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Berrien Springs Wednesday.

The Bobcats defeated the Shamrocks 13-3 and 12-2.

Brandywine scored three runs in the second third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings of the opening game.

The Bobcats finished with 15 hits, including a 4-for-5 performance from Zakiyyah Abdullah, who dove in five runs.

Kennedy Byrd was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

Delani Nelson, Nicole Sachman and Audrey Longley all had two hits.

Nelson went the distance, allowing three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

In the nightcap, Brandywine had 12 hits, including a 4-for-5 performance from Longley with a pair doubles and two RBIs.

Nelson was 3-for-5 with a double, while Byrd was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Nelson again was the winning pitcher as she went the distance. Nelson gave up two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

 

Buchanan softball

Host Buchanan swept a pair of BCS Athletic Conference softball games from Bridgman Wednesday.

The Bucks (11-6) defeated the Bees (13-11) 8-1 and 7-2.

In the opener, Sammi Luzadre tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.

Buchanan finished with 10 hits, led by Erica Donathen, who doubled.

In the nightcap, Donathen picked up the win.

She also doubled and homered for the Bucks.

Morgan Lenox added a double and Kaitlyn Lukkarila drove in a pair of runs.
