More than 2,000 I&M and AEP customers in Niles City and Niles Township are without power after a substation malfunction.
City officials say a substation near Third Street is the cause of the outage, which began at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday.
Crews are in the process of switching to the city’s backup substation. I&M estimates power to be restored by 5:30 p.m.
Niles City firefighters received a call from Skyline Estates, which is near the substation, on reports of what appeared to be smoke emanating from the roof.
