Ross, Hostetler to be inducted into Edwardsburg Hall of Fame April 29

The late Heidi Ann Ross and Brian Hostetler will be inducted into the Edwardsburg Public Schools Hall of fame April 29.

The annual dinner and induction ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the atrium. The induction ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.in the Edwardsburg Performing Arts Center auditorium. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the hall of fame lobby.

Ross, a 1972 graduate of Edwardsburg High School, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ross was a world-renowned professor of comparative and international education. She taught at Colgate and Indiana universities.

She consulted at numerous institutions in East Asia, served as president of the comparative and international education society and held editorial positions for the Comparative Education Review.

Ross published extensively on Chinese education, gender, schooling and qualitative research methodology. At Indiana University, she received the Presidential Award for excellence in teaching and the John W. Ryan Award for distinguished contributions to international programs and studies.

She married Edwardsburg graduate Bill Monaghan, who will accept the award on her behalf.

“Heidi would have felt honored and would have smiled,” Monaghan said. “Heidi has gone beyond Edwardsburg. On Monday, she will be honored at the dedication of a bench and a tree at Indiana University. Recently the Global International Studies School dedicated a plaque to here there. She was well-known and well-loved.”

Hostetler is a 1988 graduate of Edwardsburg High School.

He was a multi-sport standout who excelled in football and basketball, who won numerous honors.

He also was a standout baseball player who played at Western Michigan University where he earned All-Mid-American Conference and All-Midwest Region honors as well as being named the Broncos’ Most Valuable Player.

He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the June 1992 amateur draft. He was recognized by Topps as the rookie catcher of the year in 1992.

Hostetler is receiving the Student Activities Award. He married Angie Frost and has a daughter, Madison, and a son, Drew. They now reside in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
