‘Pennies for patients’ fundraiser to begin May 11

Berrien County Cancer Service Inc. is asking Berrien County residents to save their pennies for the 28th annual “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser.

The event will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at BCCS headquarters, 7301 Red Arrow Highway, Stevensville.

WSJM radio station will operate a remote broadcast during the event.

Pennies may be donated from noon to 2 p.m. May 11 in the lobby of the Niles Masonic Temple, 227 ½ E. Main St., Niles. Attendees are asked to enter the building at the Third Street entrance.

BCCS is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) corporation that provides skilled oncology nursing care at no cost for people who have a cancer diagnosis in Berrien County. BCCS also has a large medical and comfort/nutritional support closet as well as high quality wigs, prostheses and other items for our patients with cancer at no cost, which is made possible through community support.

Berrien County Cancer Service is funded by United Way of Southwest Michigan; donations; memorials; and fundraisers such as “Pennies for Patients.”

Last year, BCCS raised $22,017 through “Pennies for Patients.” Through 28 years of collection, the nonprofit has raised more than $464,085.

The goal this year is to reach donations of more than $28,000.

Refreshments will be available all day at the Stevensville office, which will be supplied by BCCS staff and volunteers.

Agency tours will be available throughout the day.  Refreshments will also be served the Niles location from noon to 2 p.m.

All funds raised will be used for local patients.
