Joe Hess drew a bases loaded walk to give Edwardsburg a 4-3 win over visiting St. Joseph in the first game of a non-league doubleheader Monday.
St. Joseph defeated the Eddies 7-4 in the nightcap, which was halted after five innings due to darkness.
In the bottom of the eighth, Hunter Bedell singled to score courtesy runner Nick Bradley. Bradley was running for Jake Robinson, who had reached base on an error by the Bears’ right fielder.
Devin Pulling laid down the sacrifice bunt to move Bradley into scoring position.
A single by Chase Tarwacki and a walk to Austin Hurt loaded the bases for Hess.
Robinson picked up the win in relief of starter Bedell, who worked the first six innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Robinson allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout.
Tarwaski was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Eddies, who also got two hits from Robinson and a double by Matt Hepler.
In the nightcap, Edwardsburg sent three pitchers to the mound against the Bears.
Jacob Kanaby suffered the loss as the starter. He allowed one earned on two hits.
Hepler and Austin Hurt also pitched for Edwardsburg.
Blake Anderson and Robinson both doubled, while Landen Cebra tripled for three of the four Eddies’ hits in the contest.
