Niles track teams sweep St. Joseph

The Niles boys and girls track teams opened the 2017 season with a sweep of visiting SMAC West Division opponent St. Joseph.

The Vikings won the boys meet 102.5-54.5, while the girls team posted an 82-72 win over the Bears.

Conner Amberg and Devin Tomlinson were triple winners for Niles.

Amberg was a winner in the 100-meters, 800-meter relay and 200-meters.

Tomlinson was part of the winning 3,200-meter relay, the 1,600-meters and the 800-meters.

The other members of the 3,200-meter relay were Bryant Echeverria, Hunter Greenman and Adam Shepherd. The remaining members of the 800-meter relay were Austin Brookins, Jordan Brown and Owen Gardner.

For the Niles girls team, Vanya Ruppart had a big night winning three events.

Ruppart won the discus, the shot put and the pole vault for the Vikings.

Tytianna Johnson was also a triple winner as she won the 300 hurdles, the long jump and was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay.

The other members of the relay team were Isabel Rodriguez, McKenna Patnaude and Kayla Trueblood.

Rodriquez was also a three-time winner as she was a member of the 3,200-meter relay along with Kailey Skarbeck, Kaylee Thompson and Madeline Stanton, as well as the 800-meter relay along with Sade Pearson, Quionna Nickens and Leslie Shorter.
