The Greater Niles Senior Center, 1109 Bell Road, was really hopping Thursday morning, when the Easter bunny dropped by to visit the facility and hand out some candy filled eggs.
Senior center Assistant Director Jennifer Krueger said that the facility does something special for Easter each year, though this is the first year the facility has brought a bunny on board.
Easter bunny Carolyn Gale, of Niles volunteered to pay a special visit to the center, in lieu of several other Easter activities this week.
“I am just going to hop around,” Gale said. “Every smile I can bring to someone else’s face, whether they are 3 or 80 — that is what is all about.”
Gale passed out eggs and also joined in a cardio drumming class, where she brought some smiles with her dancing in the middle of the classroom.
Gale also visits with children at Family Video. During the Christmas holiday, Gale dresses as Mrs. Klaus.
Krueger also got in the Easter spirit and hid eggs around the senior center. In addition to candy, some eggs also offered the chances for prizes, including gift cards and household odds and ends like pot holders, towels, candles, gardening items and sticky notes.
Most really get into it, Krueger said, sometimes finding dozens of eggs at a time.
The egg hunt also encourages the participation of anyone who visits the senior center, from the deliveryman to seniors and grandkids alike.
“It is just about fun,” Gale said.
