Syrian strike not a cause to celebrate

Shortly after President Trump ordered a missile strike against a Syrian airbase, Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham issued a joint statement calling on the American people to give their support to the commander-in-chief. “Unlike previous administrations, President Trump confronted a pivotal moment in Syria and took action,” their statement read. “For that, he deserves the support of the American people.”
As these two hawkish senators ask for my support of Trump, I counter with a couple observations relative to the context of his action. First, I find it strange that Trump seems to feels so protective of Syrians under the totalitarian rule of Assad that he approved the attack, yet he refuses to have anything to do with the refugee situation created by the ruler.
Secondly, there is a question of what military latitude Trump feels he has beyond the constitutional authority of Congress to declare war.
The intended scope of this call to “support the commander in chief” is not well defined in their statement. If it means surrender to Trump’s draconian policies, he will never have my support.
I will never buy in to Trump’s current proposals on healthcare, taxation, the environment, immigration and spending, nor will I ever believe anything he says based on his continual prevarication.
The capricious nature of Trump, along with his egomania, could result in some precarious situations. One only has to remember his control of the nuclear codes to ponder how dire some of those positions could be.
So before I grant my support to anything he does, he will have to demonstrate some rational control and start showing some compassion the policies he promotes!
