Dowagiac sweeps perennial state powerhouse

Visiting Dowagiac swept perennial state powerhouse Decatur 11-1 and 9-6 to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Chieftains used a 12-hit attack in taking the opening game from the Raiders and banged out 14 more hits against Decatur in the nightcap.

Adrien Bucha-Moore and Duan Simpson combined to toss a three-hitter in the first game. Bucha-Moore worked the first six innings, allowing one run and two hits with five strikeouts.

Simpson pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Ellijah Williams went 3-for-5 for the Chieftains, including a double with two RBIs.

Brenden Dudley, Austin Jones and Taylor Dodd all had two hits for Dowagiac. Jones doubled and drove in three runs.

In the nightcap, Williams, Brandon Felthouse, Jones and Dudley all took the hill for the Chieftains, who allowed four earned runs on five hits. Williams picked up the victory.

Williams was 2-for-4, while Dudley and Mack Charles both doubled. Dudley was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Jones 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Dowagiac travels to Sturgis today for its Wolverine Conference opener.
