Athlete Showcase: Edwardsburg’s Landen Cebra

Landen Cebra is a junior on the Edwardsburg baseball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

LC: Working hard in the offseason and seeing all of my hard work pay off.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

LC: Not being able to help my team win or not getting a clutch hit when needed.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

LC: Last year when my grandpa died. I was really close with him and he was always there to support me in any sport that I did.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

LC: My dad, because he has been a person that I have always looked up to as a person and as an athlete. He always pushes me to do the best and is always there for me.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

LC: Right before a big game, but right after the first pitch the nerves go away.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

LC: When I was going to field a ball my foot slipped and I fell right down and had to get the out sitting down. Everyone was laughing.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

LC: When I practice by myself I usually lift weights and condition. I usually hit off the tee for batting.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

LC: Soccer.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

LC: It is important because it teaches you to balance school work and a sport. In order to play, you need good grades. It also teaches you a good work ethic.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

LC: I would give it to all the people who have helped me get to where I am today.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

LC: The Chicago Cubs, because I am a Cubs fan and because the atmosphere at Wrigley is one-of-a-kind.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

LC: Probably be working at a job and studying for school.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

LC: Having a positive mentality through failure. Baseball is a game where you fail a lot and being able to stay positive is a very important part.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport,

 

what would it be?

LC: The challenge call in Major League Baseball.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

LC: Being told that I play well after a lot of hard work in the offseason.

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

LC: Bat with the winning run on base in the championship game. Yes, I was glad, because it is what every kid dreams about.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

LC: Tiger’s player Jose Iglesias made like three diving stops and threw the runner out.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

LC: Fishing and being outdoors. It is relaxing and fun.
