Three new members join Lakeland Health Foundations boards

NILES — Lakeland Health Foundations recently welcomed the addition of three new board members, including Mike Birkholm, to Lakeland Health Foundation, Benton Harbor/St. Joseph, and Lagena Frantz and Robin Curtis to Lakeland Health Foundation, Niles.

Birkholm is the recently retired president of Darice Inc., the largest full-line crafts distributor in the U.S. based in Cleveland. Prior to Darice, Birkholm served a variety of roles with American Greetings over 19 years with his final role being senior vice president of operations.

Birkholm graduated from the University of Michigan in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in American government. He has also completed executive education from the Darden Graduate Business School at the University of Virginia.

He is originally from southwestern Michigan and a 1969 graduate of Benton Harbor High School.

A Dowagiac high school graduate, Frantz currently serves as the 1st Source Banking Center Manager at the Martin’s Super Market branch in Niles. Since joining 1st Source Bank in 2003, she has led her staff in achieving the Banking Center of the Year award in 2013 and 2014.

Previously Frantz ran a towing/repair business with her husband Ric for 13 years.

Curtis is the vice president of Butler Family Enterprises, a family office and business management company located in Niles. She is one of the founding members of the company, which formed in 2001.

Curtis is also the vice president of the Leighton-Oare Foundation of South Bend and founder and CEO of the J. Red Peach Foundation of Niles. She has spent the last six years living in Northern Virginia, and has recently returned to the Niles area.
