One person was injured in a two-car crash that occurred around 10:25 a.m. Friday at the 400 block of Grant Street near the Lincoln Street intersection, according to authorities.

Niles Police Department Lt. Mike Stanton said  a van rear-ended another car. There were no reported injuries in the van. Due to a pending investigation Stanton said he could not say much more, including how many people were inside of the vehicle.

An occupant in the car that was rear-ended requested medical treatment and could be seen being transferred into a SMCAS ambulance. The severity of the individual’s injuries was not known at the time, Stanton said.

The Dodge Grand Caravan van appeared to have been traveling west down Grant Street when it collided with the Sebring. Authorities said due to the investigation, they could not say why or how the crash occurred.

Two Niles Fire Department units responded to the scene, in addition to the Niles City Police and SMCAS.

Grant Street from State Street to Lincoln Avenue was temporarily blocked off as crews worked to clean up the aftermath of the collision.

Crews could be seen laying down a fiber substance over the leakage from the cars. The substance absorbs the spills and can be washed away naturally, authorities said.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
