SUBMITTED

The Buchanan School Board will interview three candidates for the position of superintendent.
The invitations to interview were extended near the end of a special board meeting Tuesday night with consultant Gary Rider. Rider is the regional president of the Michigan Leadership Institute who was selected by the board to lead the search effort.
A fourth candidate was invited to interview, but withdrew after being offered a position late Wednesday night.
During the meeting, Rider presented 29 applicants to the board. The board reviewed their resumes, and then Rider facilitated the process to narrow the field to those the board wanted to invite to interview. The board also discussed the importance of feedback from parents, students, staff and the community during the process, and began to develop interview questions.
The board is on pace to move forward with its plan to conduct first-round interviews next week and second-round interviews after spring break.
Site visits to final candidates’ districts are also a possibility and would be conducted after the second round of interviews.
“We hope parents, members of the community and staff will attend the interviews,” said Buchanan Board President Harvey Burnett. “It will be very important for the board to have their input during the process.”
The public is invited to all interviews and is strongly encouraged to attend; public feedback after each interview will be valuable to the board. All interviews will be in the Buchanan Middle School Media Center at 610 W. Fourth St. in Buchanan.
