Kalamazoo Central’s Livers named Mr. Basketball

DETROIT — Kalamazoo Central senior Isaiah Livers has been named the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award winning for 2016-17.

Livers, who has committed to the University of Michigan, scored 19 points as the Maroon Giants eliminated Niles from the Class C district tournament March 8.

Livers, who is 6-foot-8, finished with 2,811 votes.

Xavier Tillman of Grand Rapids Christian was the runner-up with 2,739 votes.

Livers finished with 333 first place votes and Tillman 363. Livers had 313 second-place votes compared to 249 for Tillman.

Jason Whitens of Powers North Central was third, Detroit East English Village’s Greg Elliott fourth, Amauri Hardy of North Farmington fifth.

Livers averaged 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.7 steals.
