Deshanay Alexander is a junior on the Niles girls basketball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
DA: Getting a double-double as a sophomore.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
DA: Not keeping my grades up my sophomore year.
What has been a hardship in your life?
DA: Losing my mom.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
DA: God, because when no one was there for me, he was.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
DA: The jump ball.
Describe an
embarrassing athletic moment.
DA: Tripping over my own feet.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
DA: Go to the park when it is warm out.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
DA: Honestly, I would not mind trying softball.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
DA: Sports are one of the main things that push me to keep my grades up. Without them I would be lost.
How would you give away $50,000?
DA: I would give some to my family and donate to a cancer awareness center.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
DA: Varsity girls basketball.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
DA: Have a job.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
DA: Posting up strong.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
DA: Adding another quarter to the game.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
DA: When Mrs. Busby just looked at me and said I was so beautiful.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
DA: When I lied to my dad. No.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
DA: When L.J. (Lajan Mitchell) hit a spin move in the game and made it.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
DA: Dancing.
