Daniel Frances Dunn, 26, was charged with domestic violence, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana during his arraignment hearing Friday afternoon in Cass County Court. Dunn’s bond was set at $5,000.

Dunn is suspected of attacking a woman inside a room at the Dowagiac hotel, located at Amerihost Drive, during the early morning hours Thursday, according to police. At the scene, police met with a man who heard the dispute from his room, who told police that he had attempted to intervene after he saw the suspect attacking the victim. When the man attempted to step in, the suspect pulled a knife out of his pocket and threatened him before fleeing the hotel and running into the nearby woods.

Dunn later returned to the hotel while police were still at the scene. The officers took him into custody, and found the knife and some marijuana on him.

The victim had bruising due to the attack, but did not need medical treatment.

Dunn had an outstanding warrant in Allegan County for failing to appear on a charge there.
