Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Tamia Wilson

Tamia Wilson is a sophomore on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

TM: Improving.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

TM: My attitude.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

TM: Losing loved ones.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

TM: My mother. She is a hard-working person and one of the best people to look up to.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

TM: The beginning of a game and halftime.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

TM: Falling on the court or air balling.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

TM: Work on my dribbling and my shooting form.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

TM: I would love to try softball.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

TM: It helps keep me in shape and encourages me to keep track of my grades.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

TM: I would give some to my mother, some to the Dowagiac Athletic Department and keep the rest.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

TM: Michigan State.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

TM: Get a job and continue school.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

TM: Handling pressure when having the ball.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

TM: The five-second violation.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

TM: “You guys work hard and I am proud to be your coach. Good job.”

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

TM: Guarding a big girl. I am glad I did it because I stopped her from scoring.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

TM: Amiyah Smith and her cold moves in the post.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

TM: Basketball, volleyball, track and hopefully one day softball, because I love sports.
