Girls roundup: Brandywine finishes regular season at 16-4

PARCHMENT — Not many people would have expected the Brandywine girls basketball team to finish the 2016-17 regular season with 16 wins.
After all, the Bobcats graduated all five starters from the previous season in which it went to the Class C state semifinals.
But Brandywine capped a 16-4 regular season with a 36-28 win over host Parchment Friday night.
The Bobcats will now take this week to prepare for its Class C district opener against host Watervliet Monday night.
Brandywine outscored Parchment 21-14 in the second half to turn a one-point halftime lead (29-28) into an eight-point victory.
Zakiyyah Abdullah led the Bobcats with 18 points. Nichole Sachman added five points.
The Panthers did not have a player in double figures.

Niles at St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH — Visiting Niles remained winless in the SMAC West Division following a 57-42 loss to St. Joseph Friday night.
The Bears (14-4, 7-0 SMAC West) grabbed a first quarter lead and never looked back.
Niles (4-14, 0-7 SMAC West) trailed 28-17 at halftime and 41-33 heading into the final quarter.
Emma Applegate had 10 points to lead the Vikings, who also got 10 points from Jaycee Myer.
Shelby Madison led the Bears and all scorers with 17 points.

After a sluggish start, host Edwardsburg outscored Vicksburg 30-12 over the final three quarters to post a 38-20 Wolverine Conference South Division victory Friday night.
Kaitlyn Zarycki led Edwardsburg and all scorers with 13 points. Savannah Dixon added 12 points.
