Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Shaquan Stanback

Shaquan Stanback is a sophomore on the Dowagiac boys basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

SS: Making the varsity basketball team as a sophomore.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

SS: When I stopped playing baseball.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

SS: My grandma. She is always there for me.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

SS: When It is getting down to the last seconds in a close game.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

SS: Once I had a wide-open layup and I missed it.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

SS: I do pretty well, but do not work as hard.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

SS: I play football as well.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

SS: Because you have a lot of fun.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

SS: I would give it to my mom.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

SS: The Cleveland Cavaliers.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

SS: Work.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

SS: Playing good defense all the time.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

SS: I would add a shot clock.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

SS: After a game a lot of people told me I was a pretty good shooter.

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

SS: Riding a rollercoaster. Yes, it was fun.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

SS: We played against Paw Paw and Luke Tolliver shot pretty well.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

SS: Playing basketball. It is what I love to do.
