Dowagiac girls fall to Otsego, boys beaten by St. Joe in OT

OTSEGO — Another slow start led to another Wolverine Conference loss for the Dowagiac girls basketball team Tuesday night.

The Chieftains (3-14) scored just seven points in the first half and trailed the Wolverine Conference North Division leading Bulldogs 36-7.

Dowagiac scored 18 second half points, but gave up another 29 points for Otsego.

Amiyah Smith led the Chieftains with 13 points. Taylor Hulett added eight.

Liz Barwegan led the Bulldogs and all scorers with 15 points.

 

Boys basketball

ST. JOSEPH — The Dowagiac boys basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped when host St. Joseph scored a 63-59 win over the Chieftains in overtime Tuesday night.

Dowagiac led a 30-24 halftime lead slip away as the Bears were able to rally to deadlock the score at 54-54 at the end of regulation.

St. Joseph outscored Dowagiac 9-5 in the extra session to pick up its eighth victory of the season.

The Chieftains drop of 5-10 overall.

Adrien Bucha-Moore led Dowagiac with a game-high 19 points. D.J. Lanier, J.J. Smith and Jamin Hunt all scored nine points.

St. Joseph was led by Michael Hunn’s 17 points.
