Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Jamin Hunt

Jamin Hunt is a junior on the Dowagiac boys basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

JH: Starting as a sophomore on the varsity.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

JH: Losing to Lakeshore last year in the district championship.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

JH: My parents’ divorce.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

JH: My brother D.J., because he never gives up, no matter the circumstances.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

JH: During the pre-game talk.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

JH: Slipping and giving up a costly touchdown against Buchanan in districts.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

JH: I like to lift weights or I will shoot game-like shots.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

JH: Football, because it helps to let out anger and aggression.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

JH: I helps to build relationships with people you otherwise would not have and they teach life lessons.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

JH: I would make sure my friends and family were okay, and then give to charity.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

JH: The Michigan State men’s basketball team.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

JH: Be in the Front Row Crew and be more involved in the community.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

JH: Leading my team and staying positive.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

JH: Being able to take charges under the basket.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

JH: You are a great player/athlete.

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

JH: Playing new positions in football and basketball this year. Yes, because I became more versatile.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

JH: Erik Walker getting the game-winning pick-six. He saved my tail.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

JH: Shooting around, playing 2K and hanging with my bros. They all help me relax.
