The Dowagiac wrestling team faces a tough test as it hosts the Division 3 team district wrestling tournament tonight.

The Chieftains drew a first round bye and will face the winner of the Buchanan-Constantine semifinal, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The championship match will be 10 minutes after the completion of the Bucks and Falcons contest.

Dowagiac has not faced Constantine this year, but defeated Buchanan 46-25 in its season opener back in December.

“Thursday is going to be tough,” said Dowagiac coach Colin Burandt. “Both Buchanan and Constantine are tough teams with some really strong weight classes. We have to make sure everybody makes their weight. When it comes to competing we need to stay off our backs and stay in, if not win, some matches we are not supposed to be in.”

Key match-ups for the Chieftains against Constantine are at 112 with Kody Walker and Devyn Begley and at 119 with Gage Williams and Zach Harrison.

Against Buchanan, top match-ups will be at 160 where Justin Lyle is expected to face Jacob Graham and at 285 with Derrek Collett against Max Carrigan.

The winner advances to the Coloma regional Feb. 15.

Admission is $5 per person and no passes will be accepted.
