Brady still not the best

It still amazes me how everyone is making Tom Brady out to be the greatest quarterback to ever play in a Super Bowl.

Yes, Brady and the Patriots are great, but he is not the all-time greatest quarterback to play in the title game.

I know right now many of you are turning red, but let me throw out a few facts.

I am no math major, but 4-0 is greater than 5-2.

That means both Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw were better than Brady in the Super Bowl.

I use that measuring stick because many of the same people who want to make Brady the G.O.A.T. will not crown LeBron James the greatest of all time if he surpasses Michael Jordan in number of NBA World Championships.

If your measuring stick is titles, then I am fine having Brady be the best. But if you are not willing to do that with James, then we cannot do that with “Captain America.”

Let me throw another couple of statistics at you before you blow a gasket.

Montana never turned the ball over in the biggest game of the season.

Brady now has five interceptions, including a pick-six Sunday night.

The two should be tied for Most Valuable Player awards from the game if the media truly was honest with its voting Sunday.

On any other night, James White would have won the MVP after catching 14 passes (a Super Bowl record) for 110 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

But the media wanted to see NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hand Brady the award due to some sick fascination with what has transpired between the two.

Tom Brady without a doubt is one of the top three or four quarterbacks of all time.

But you cannot undo the past and rewrite history.

I am tired of those who say he is the greatest because of all the different personnel he has had to play with.

I would like to see Brady play under the rules that Montana and Bradshaw played. There was not anyone in their headsets calling plays and looking over the defense until just seconds before the snap.

The game was different then and there is really no true way to compare their greatness.

So like I said before, if you want to go solely with total championships, I am fine with it.

By the way, where does that leave Charles Haley? He has five Super Bowl rings.
