Wrestling postseason begins Saturday

Area wrestling teams have wrapped up their regular season and now it is tournament time.

Beginning with conference tournaments Saturday, wrestlers begin the march toward postseason honors.

Brandywine will once again host the BCS Athletic Conference tournament, which includes Cassopolis and Buchanan, while Niles will travel to Portage Central High School for the SMAC event.

Dowagiac and Edwardsburg travel to Otsego for the Wolverine Conference tournament.

At Brandywine, wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The Bobcats have several projected top seeds, including Kaci Lintz (25-5) at 135 pounds, Searra Inmann (25-8) at 103, Sam Burge (25-10) at 189, Michael Kachur (29-8) at 130 and Corbin Eckenberger (27-10) at 140.

Cassopolis’ Dylan Green is a projected No. 1 seed at 140 pounds. He placed fourth at the Greater Berrien County Invitational Saturday.

Buchanan’s top wrestlers include Adam Eger (28-7) at 135, Jacob Graham (28-8) at 160 and Max Carrigan (28-8) at 285.

At Portage Central, wrestling is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Niles and arch rival Lakeshore, who wrestled in the regular season finale for both teams Wednesday, will be looking to win the SMAC championship.

Niles will be led into action by Brenden Hall (21-3), Andrew Flick (22-1), Austin Franco (6-0), Cade Stephenson , who picked up his 100th career victory Saturday and Mitchell Findeisen, who suffered his first loss of the season.

Wrestling at Otsego will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Edwardsburg will be looking to win the outright Wolverine Conference championship after going 9-0 in the regular season, including a win over Allegan last Wednesday that snapped the Tigers winning streak that dated back to 1999.

The Eddies will be led into the tournament by Jacob Reece (103), Noah Tinkham (112), Josh McMann (140), Patrick Snyder (145), Nick Bradley (152), Jacob Adrina (160), Joe Hess (171), Austin Cline (189) and Josh Harris (285).

Dowagiac’s top wrestlers are Kody Walker (112) 22-5, Jesse Edge (119) 15-7, Patrick Sirk (130) 17-10, Gage Williams (135) 17-8, Justin Lyle (171) 15-11 and Donovan Schoff (171) 12-8.

Admission to all three sites is $5 per person.

Concessions will be available throughout the day.
