“Bangels, Baubles and Beads” will be the theme for this year’s Miss Blossom Time Fashion Show, which will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lake Michigan College’s Upton Hall, five weeks prior to the Miss Blossomtime Queen Contest.
Longtime Blossomtime volunteer Nancy Pallas will be coordinating the 2017 Fashion Show in memory of former chairperson Gertie Johnson. Johnson chaired the event for the festival for more than 50 years before she passed away suddenly in December. Johnson will be honored and recognized for her years of service.
“Gertie is missed by all, with her kind heart and beautiful sense of style,” said Anna Abdelnour, president of Blossomtime, “She was the grand dame of the festival, serving more than 55 years as a volunteer for the Blossomtime Festival, and served as Blossomtime’s first woman president.”
This Blossomtime event will be hosted by Lainie Lu Howard Von Behren, Miss Blossomtime 1988. The show will feature all 2017 Community Queens, Miss Teen Blossomtime, Miss Jr. Teen Blossomtime, Little Miss Blossom, Miss Pre-Teen Blossom, the Bud Prince and Princess and a few local guest models.
As an added feature, the communities involved this year have brought a basket filled with goodies from their hometown to be offered at a silent auction, along with many exciting donated items. The silent auction will be at 2 p.m., when doors open.
Ticket prices will be $15, and are available from the Blossomtime Office at 2330 S. Cleveland Ave., St. Joseph, or at the door. People may call the festival at (269) 982-8016 or email at
