Voters to decide if school can use sinking funds for technology, security upgrades

Dear community members,
In the fall our legislators passed House Bill 4388 to expand the use of sinking funds to include school security improvements and technology. This is great news! However, this law was passed after Buchanan passed their sinking fund millage in May 2013.
At this point we are unable to use our current sinking funds for technology or security upgrades unless we go back to the voters and ask for permission to use our current millage to include these items.
Guess what? We are going to the voters May 2!

These are the things you need to know:
• House Bill 4388 changed the language for the use of sinking funds to include security improvements and technology.
• We are required to go back to the voters and ask if we can use our current millage to purchase security improvements and technology.
• No increase in taxes!
• No impact on your property taxes!
What happens if you vote yes? We will use the remaining eight years of our current millage and consider technology and security improvements when making financial decisions.
What happens if you vote no? We will continue to use our current millage with the 2013 language that was approved by voters. In other words, we will not be able to purchase any security improvements or technology with these monies.
If you have any questions regarding this millage, please contact me at 269–695-8401.
Thank you. Go Bucks!
