A Dowagiac man was arrested early Saturday morning after crashing his vehicle into a garage in Silver Creek Township, according to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, deputies with the sheriff’s office were dispatched to a reported accident near the intersection of E. Lake Shore Drive and Maple Island Road at around 2:21 a.m. At the scene, police learned that a 23-year-old man had crashed his vehicle into a nearby garage after losing control of his vehicle while heading west on Lake Shore.

Both the driver and his passenger, 22-year-old Nathan Dallen Michaels, also of Dowagiac, were taken care of at the scene by crews with Pride Care Ambulance. The driver was released with minor injuries, while Michaels did not suffer from any injuries.

The driver was then arrested by police, as it is suspected he was driving while intoxicated. He is currently being held at Cass County Jail for operating while under the influence of alcohol.

The driver’s name is being withheld by police, pending his arraignment in court.

In addition to Pride Care, Cass County deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the Sister Lakes Fire Department and True’s Towing and Recovery.
