The man suspected of fatally stabbing his coworker at a Cassopolis factory Wednesday has been charged with murder, according to a release from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

William L. Henderson, 23, of Elkhart, was charged with open murder during his arraignment in front  of Judge Stacey Rentfrow in Cass County District Court Wednesday. Rentfrow denied Henderson bail, at the request of Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz.

Henderson is suspected of stabbing his co-worker, 24-year-old Jan Carlos Velazquez Mendez, also of Elkhart, in the neck with a knife following an argument at the Ameri-Kart factory, located in Mason Township. The stabbing occurred while the two were on break, shortly after they got into a dispute while working at the same machine.

The two men had only worked together for a few months, police say.

Open murder carries a potential penalty of mandatory life in prison.
