The Cass County Parks and Recreation Department and The Friends of Cass County Parks invite the public to the 11th annual Discover Winter Nights at Dr. T.K. Lawless Park later this month. The evenings of winter activities run from 5 to 9 p.m. every Saturday, from Jan. 14 through Feb. 11.
Weather permitting, the winter event will feature a lighted tubing hill (tubes provided or guests can bring their own), and 3 miles of lighted cross-country ski trails.
New this year is a refurbished sleigh for a tractor-pulled fun ride, and the mountain bike trail has been opened for winter biking.
A warming fire and refreshments will be available for those wishing for a more relaxed atmosphere with family and friends.
Fees for the annual event remain at $2 per person for entry, with an additional charge of $1 for the tractor-drawn sleigh ride.
Located just south of M-60 on Monkey Run Street, five miles west of Jones., Lawless is an 820-acre park that has long been the centerpiece of winter recreation within the Cass County Parks system.
Visitors of all abilities can enjoy more than 7 miles of groomed cross country skiing and hiking trails through the southwest Michigan countryside. Travelers can often view bald eagles, beavers, otters, whitetail deer and squirrels, among other animals.
The landscapes that blanket the park in winter also provide a spot for bird watching, and for sitting back and enjoying nature from one of the park’s covered benches. Groomed inner-tubing hills and trails for winter biking are also located at the park.
