Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Micaela Ruff

Micaela Ruff is a senior on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

MR: Trying golf and being good.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

MR: When I rolled my ankle during a tennis tournament and was not able to finish.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

MR: Mr. (Brent) Nate for helping to turn around the basketball program.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

MR: When the score is close and it comes down to I have to make this; if not we lose.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

MR: Falling into the tennis net going for a ball.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

MR: Ice hockey.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

MR: It teaches you how to be a team player.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

MR: I would give $50,000 to the girls basketball team to make the program better.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

MR: If I could be the head coach of any team it would be tennis.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

MR: Work.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

MR: Pushing myself when I am tired.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

MR: Allow more fouls.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

MR: “You can do it.”

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

MR: Playing varsity tennis as a freshman. I am very glad I picked up the sport.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

MR: Mr. (Dustin) Cornelius dancing at lunch.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

MR: Playing sports.
