Winter storm warning is in effect from Thursday until late Friday afternoon

A winter storm warning is in effect from 4 a.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Friday evening across Berrien and Cass counties according to the National Weather Service in northern Indiana.

Drifting lake effect snows could bring between 5 and 8 inches of snow by Friday, reducing visibility, creating icy road conditions and making commuting difficult.

There is an 80 percent chance of snow showers expected before 1 p.m. Thursday, with blowing snow anticipated after 1 p.m. less than an inch of snow is expected to drop during the day.

The highest temperature throughout the day is predicted to be around 26 degrees fahrenheit. Winds in the 15 to 20-miles per hour range are also expected.

Thursday night, there is a 90 percent chance of snow and between 2 to 4 inches of is expected. The temperature low is anticipated to be 24 degrees fahrenheit.

Snow is expected to continue into Friday, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation possible. The temperature high will be near 27 degrees fahrenheit. Between 1 and 3 inches of new snow accumulation is possible through the day.

Friday night, there is a 40 percent chance of snow. The temperature low will be around 19 degrees fahrenheit.

Snow showers have a possibility of continuing through the weekend and into next week.

As a precautionary measure commuters have been advised to have food, water and a flashlight stored in the vehicle in the event of an emergency.
