Roundup: Brandywine wins, Vikings fall

DECATUR — The Brandywine girls basketball team rebounded from its loss to Comstock last week by trouncing host Decatur 48-13 Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (2-1) outscored the Raiders (1-2) 20-6 in the opening half and then shut out Decatur in the third quarter to take a commanding 31-6 lead.

Makenna Bowen and Zakiyyah Abdullah both scored 12 points to lead the Bobcats.

Brandywine travels to Buchanan to open up BCS Athletic Conference play tonight. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Niles at Three Rivers

THREE RIVERS — Host Three Rivers outscored Niles 22-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away to a 59-39 non-conference girls basketball victory Tuesday night.

The Vikings trailed early on, but fought their way back into the contest and took the lead briefly in the third quarter.

The Wildcats (1-1) reclaimed the lead and led 37-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Niles (0-2) trailed 12-5 after one quarter and 24-13 at halftime.

Lajan Mitchell, playing her first game of the season, led the Vikings with 15 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter.

Deshanay Alexander added eight points, while Emily Gaines finished with seven.

Arionne Fowlkes led Three Rivers and all scorers with 16 points.

Niles travels to Portage Northern to open up SMAC action Friday night.
