ST. JOSEPH — The Cassopolis basketball team had to switch venue sites due to a small fire at Cassopolis High School Monday morning.

The Rangers had to hit the road to face Lake Michigan Catholic in a BCS Athletic Conference non-divisional girls basketball game.

Despite the fact that the game was moved to St. Joseph, Cassopolis was able to pick up its first victory of the season as the Rangers outscored the Lakers 11-2 in the second quarter on their way to a 39-21 win over Lake Michigan Catholic.

The two teams were deadlocked at 5-5 after one quarter, but the Rangers (1-2) took command of the game in the second quarter.

Cassopolis netted another 11 points, including six from Ky’ana Buck, to open up a 27-13 advantage heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Buck finished with a game-high 16 points, while Sophie Fiala added six. Kiersten Hartsell and Madison Brooks both finished with five points.

Frannie Valenziano led the Lakers with six points.
