Host Buchanan used a big first half to defeat Parchment 38-28 in the season and BCS Athletic Conference Red Division opener for the Bucks Thursday night.

Buchanan (1-0, 1-0 BCS Red) 16-4 in the second quarter to open up a 30-17 halftime advantage on the Panthers.

The Bucks led just 14-13 after the first eight minutes of play.

Parchment (1-1, 0-1 BCS Red) outscored Buchanan 11-8 in the second half, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Brooke Wesner scored 17 points to lead the Bucks and all scorers.

Buchanan also got 12 points from Jayla Biggs, while Myeshia Mayo added six.

Haley Knapp led the Panthers with 10 points.

Buchanan returns to action tonight as it travels to Benton Harbor for a non-conference contest slated to begin at 7:15 p.m.
