More than 1,900 participate in 35th annual Thanksgiving Day Run

More than 1,900 runners and walkers hit the streets of Niles for the 35th annual Niles-Buchanan YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run Thursday.

For the second time in three years, Ben Jacobs of Hopkins, Minnesota breezed to victory in the 10K run.

Jacobs ran a time of 33:26 to beat Patrick McNamara of Niles, who ran a 34:13.

Laura Jacobs, also of Hopkins ran a 40:23 to beat Katie House of South Bend, who ran a 41:56.

Nicholas Scheel of Granger, Indiana was the men’s 5K champion with a time of 16:40. Chris White of Elkhart, Indiana was second with a 16:50.

The women’s 5K title went to Liesl Muehlhauser of South Bend with a time of 19:32.

Kaitlin Murray of Redford, was second with a 21:06.

There were 404 finishers in the 10K race and 1,587 in the 5K.

Proceeds from the Thanksgiving Day Run support the Annual Campaign, which supports programming at the Y and provides financial support to families through membership scholarships. The Annual Campaign supports Summer My Way, Y-Club after school programs, youth sports, community water safety programs, just to name a few.
