Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Caleb Murphy

Caleb Murphy is a junior on the Dowagiac football team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

CM: First-team all-conference as wide receiver.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

CM: Getting no award on the defensive side of the football.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

CM: Growing up with just a mom.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

CM: My mother is. She never lets me down and I want to be just like her.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

CM: Before the first snap of the ball.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

CM: At Paw Paw, when I kept catching cramps.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

CM: Lifting weights and running with my uncle Cory.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

CM: Basketball.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

CM: They are something you never get back.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

CM: Make sure my mom, brothers and sisters are okay and the rest to a fund for autism.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

CM: Dowagiac.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

CM: Workout, study and work.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

CM: Stay low as a defensive end.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

CM: Not being allowed to wear your jersey like Ezikel Elliott.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

CM: “You are going to go far in life kid. Keep working.”

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

CM: Block punts, and yes.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
