Athlete Showcase: Brandywine’s Caley Alvord

Caley Alvord is a senior on the Brandywine volleyball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

CV: One of my greatest accomplishments as an athlete was getting pulled up for districts my junior year.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

CV: One of my biggest disappointments was losing in districts my senior year.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

CV: A hardship in my life has been trying to juggle school, sports and a social life.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

CV: A hero in my life would be my parents. Because they are always there for me no matter what.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

CV: I am the most nervous right before a game starts.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

CV: An embarrassing moment was when I had my basketball shorts on backwards during a game.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

CV: When I work out by myself I go to the gym and run and lift.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

CV: I would like to play tennis if I didn’t play the sports I do now.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

CV: Sports are an important part of my high school career because they keep me busy and give me something to do.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

CV: If I had $50,000 dollars to give away I would split it up between different cancer associations and nursing homes.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

CV: If I could be head coach of a team I would like to coach a kid’s softball team.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

CV: If I didn’t play sports I would have a lot more Netflix series under my belt.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

CV: The most challenging thing to do in my sport is make a left-handed lay up or shoot a free throw the correct way.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

CV: One rule I would change would be when the setter gets called for a double.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

CV: The best compliment I have ever received was when Mr. Stella told me I made a difference on the court.

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

CV: The scariest thing I ever had to do was serve on game point or go up to bat with two outs.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

CV: Someone that has really impressed me is Mia Stella with how hard she works and her leadership skills.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

CV: My favorite hobby is playing sports because it gives me something to do and keeps me busy.
