The Dowagiac Elks will host its annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at the Dowagiac Middle School, Saturday, Dec. 3.

Registration and warm-up starts at 10 a.m. with the contest set to begin at 11 a.m.

The contest is for girls and boys ages 8 to 13. Contestants’ age groups are determined by their age as of April 1, 2017. This program is free to all participants in Cass County.

Each participant will shoot 25 free throws, with each age group winner receiving a new basketball and medal, and will move on with other winners to the next level.

Age groups are 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13.

District winners and their family’s expenses will be paid by the Elks to travel to the state, regional and national contests.

The Hoop Shoot provides a character-building and competitive experience for all participants. Contestants learn about the importance of respect and good sportsmanship, and learn to accept defeat or winning gracefully. Through healthy competition and practice, contestants develop skills that aid in achieving school and life success.
